Here I am being silly with Gavin. I took that pic myself! I've been practicing. The question is, can someone as silly as that (me) do something serious?

I went to Brown Mackie college today for an appointment and signed up for "Criminal Justice" classes. I can get an associates degree by time I'm 27, in 2 years. They have this really cool block scheduling so you're considered "full time" but only take one class at a time. It's really intense as classes are only 4 weeks long. I think it's great for a working mother of 2 such as myself.

I called to tell Mark I was doing it for real and he said he can't believe they let me sign up for those classes. He doesn't think criminal justice is in my field of potential expertise. He thinks I'd be better working with kids. I told him I could work with juveniles. He said I don't have the guts or anything to deal with those kind of troubled kids and thinks I'll end up getting hurt or killed. The administrator/counselor (whatever you call him) that interviewed me says I have the perfect personality to go into that field. The only thing I don't think I would like to do is get into corrections...

Well I'm going tomorrow to apply for financial aid and my first class starts Sept 6th. I'm glad to finally be doing something useful with myself. I hate my job and I hate all the decisions I've made career-wise since high school. I'm sick of my finances and want to do something good for myself and hopefully my family!

I say GO ME!

Good for you!! I say, if that is what you want then you go for it. Don't let anyone, not even Mark tell you it isn't what you should do,that you don't have the guts or that is not the expertise you have. That is what the classes are for. I think it is great. Good Luck!!

Thanks Jen! I appreciate that. I think he was just shocked that I actually went through with it because I've gone to different colleges for this or that & never done anything. Plus he's never heard me say I was interested in criminal justice before, but it does sound interesting & after talking with the guy about it, it does sound like something I'd like to do & can see myself doing. I think it'll be a huge benefit for this family... I'll like my job & hopefully bring home the bacon too!

Congrats! I have thought about going back to school too, I would love to go for Criminal Justice and work for a prosecuting attorney. I work for a civil lawyer now, but would love to work in a different area some day. Good luck!

I am loving it already. I'm so ready to finish "growing" up and get a big person job. I'm ready to work with professionals and actually enjoy what I'm doing and knowing by helping myself I'll be helping others... Not to mention the lowest job in my field has got to pay more than McDonalds, so I would be benefiting my family as well. He said my first classes will be kind of an "introductory" type things, relearning how to take notes, how to study, tests. They have a lot of returning adults & such like myself.
